Unprecedented access and footage of one of the most controversial events in recent Middle East history – Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from Gaza. On 15th August 2005, Israel began the disengagement from the Gaza Strip. In a unilateral move by the Israeli government, approximately 8,000 Jewish settlers were removed from their homes and villages. Many of them refused to leave and were forced to do so by the Israeli army, an unusual encounter that created complex emotional and moral situations for soldiers and settlers alike. This human mosaic tells the story of the disengagement from several different perspectives, providing the narrative of an Israeli society in all its complexity, confronting a unique historical moment. Granted unique access to the Israeli army and settlers, seven film crews simultaneously track the intriguing figures caught in this event over the course of five days. Crafted in the style of an action drama, by the internationally acclaimed filmmaker Yoav Shamir (Checkpoint), this documentary will leave no viewer indifferent.
